Heal Your “Second Brain” – Gut
Did you know our gut is known as our second brain? That’s because the gut contains plenty of neurons and neurotransmitters that are similarly found in the central nervous system. The gut communicates with the brain and does more than digestion of food. The gut is also responsible for our mental state and other diseases as well.
In TCM, the stomach and spleen make up the digestive system, and is regarded as the most important organ in the body due its ability to digest, absorb and transport nutrients around the body.
How Does TCM Gastro-Intestinal Care Treatment Work?
Abdominal massage has been used for centuries to detox and strengthen the human body. The stomach is responsible for moving food downwards towards the intestines, and when blockages occurs, food reverses direction and goes back up, leading to acid reflux, vomiting and indigestion. In other cases, intestinal blockages may cause food to be stuck in the intestines, blocking the flow of qi, and causing the stomach to become large and tight.
The TCM Gastro-Intestinal Care Treatment is also rooted in the Traditional Chinese Medicine belief that unsettled trauma and emotional issues are stored in the intestinal system, and when left unchecked could manifest as various illnesses.
Who Is Suitable For This Treatment?
TCM Gastro-Intestinal Care Treatment is a non-invasive treatment that is suitable for people from all walks of life. Individuals with these sub-health problems would greatly benefit from the treatment.
Watch Now: Treatment Process
This is a 60 minutes health restorative massage that releases intestinal congestion. The treatment involves gentle massage techniques directly over the navel and abdominal area. Some of the techniques include:
- Anti-clockwise rotations to nourish the qi of intestinal organs. If you are suffering from diarrhoea, these movements are crucial for relieving diarrhoea symptoms.
- Clockwise rotations to detox the body. Most clients would benefit greatly from this as our current lifestyle and choice of food get unhealthier. This helps prevent constipation, eliminate gas and promote weight loss.
- The stimulation of intestinal acupressure points help to improve the flow of qi and blood to the intestinal organs to aid digestion. Some of the acupressure points include:
- Jian Li: invigorates the spleen and relieves bloating, appetite loss, anorexia and vomiting.
- Xia Wan: nourishes stomach and spleen qi, descends stomach qi and prevents food stagnation.
- Shui Fen: eliminates excess fluids that causes dampness and phlegm. This acupressure points corresponds to the small intestine and relieves swellings, bloating and urinary problems.
Depending on the type of digestive issues, the therapist will apply more pressure at certain points or massage in smaller focused rotations.
